Gilda's Show

This piece is the first in my Celebration Series. It is called Gilda's Show.
After artist Gilda Snowden's death, the Center for Creative Studies held a retrospective show of her work in their main gallery. It was a beautiful show. The room was dark except for the light on her glowing paintings. From across the room the viewers were in silloette in front of the work. It was an inspiring sight. This piece captures that moment for me.

Feb 10 - Bollywood Spiced Popcorn Donut

This gem is from Jelly Modern Doughnuts in Toronto.
It is the special for the month!
The creativity and imagination the bakers show is impressive.
Spiced popcorn sits atop a caramel glaze topped with candied orange peel.

Feb 8 - Raspberry Siracha and Friends

Hmmm, Raspberry Siracha, I love the idea of a spicy donut!
It's also a very pretty one! These donuts are from Dough Loco in NYC.
Last month my theme for the 30 Paintings in 30 Days was Oregon.
The challenge has ended but I'm still rolling with almost daily small paintings.
My February theme is ..... wait for it..... donuts!
I've found there are many artists who start their day with small observational works created in one sitting. It becomes almost a meditation and a centering process.
This painting is acrylic on paper and is 9" X 12".

Feb 7 - Heart to Heart

Funny, I would rather eat a cookie than a donut but
I would much rather paint a donut.
Bakers are having so much fun decorating donuts.
Just look at those donuts. Shiny electric colors for glazes.
A big squirt of sugary hot pink frosting and then to
finish them with a flurry of sprinkles.
This piece is acrylic on paper and is 9" X 12".

So many donuts not enough time!
This beauty is from Stan's Donuts and Coffee in Chicago.
I'm going to zig zag my way across the US stopping at donut shops.
I'll be in my painting caravan.
This painting is 9" X 12" and is acrylic on paper.
