Jan 20 - Gesso Jar with Brush

Local feedback is tired of cherries!! So, nearby I have no shortage of still life materials.
My new theme is studio flotsam and jetsam.

Jan 19 - Cherries on Cyan

My husband asked if I was ever going to do more than three cherries.
I think three cherries are just right. don't you?

Jan 18 - Cherries No Bowl

I'm experimenting with different toning. Today I tried Quinacridone Burnt Orange. It is slightly transparent. I find it a very interesting color but it hides in a mixture of pigments. So as a background it can play a larger role. As you can see it influenced my color palette today.

Jan 15 - Cherries in a Row

OK, so I was in a rush. I did the thumbnail drawing before my morning walk (which I should post).
It looks better than my painting!

Jan 14 - Cherry in the Light

I've gone back to starting with negative painting with a larger brush. I blocked in the shadows first.
This puts a small painting in the 'struggle' zone immediately. Actually, this piece never left that zone!

Jan 13 - Close Up Bon Bon

I'm using the square view finder to pick my composition before I do my thumbnail sketch.
I find that helpful. Once I start painting I use the thumbnail for reference, otherwise I loose track of where the shadows were in my original view.

Jan 10 - Day 10 of 30/30 Painting Challenge 2016

Peppermint Bon Bons #2

This painting is more successful, I think. Like my ' Pear' series, the more familiar I am with my subject the better the painting. Of course, you say. I still need to be reminded! So I see more Bon Bons coming down this road, tee hee.

Jan 9 - Pointsetia Experiment

I thought I would try a different media. This Windsor Newton's brush pens.
Guess what? Not my favorite.

Jan 7 - Studio Props

I'm a little lost without my sweet treats to paint. My tools of the trade will make a good stand in.
I don't have my spot light, I have to look carefully at the shadows.
I'm not focused. I'm visiting with my buddies. I've missed them over the holidays.
It's good to be back with my Sister Brushes.

Jan 6 - Sue's Cupcakes

Sometimes, for me, working on more than one painting at a time is productive. I think that was the case today. Maybe I should admit that a deadline may have really been the motivator! Haha.
Here is another 6" X 6" acrylic on gesso board. Also another Christmas treat from cousin Sue.

Jan 5 - Ode to Tillamook

Wasn't able to get to Tillamook this year, aw. Here are my cheesy inspirational marks.

Jan 4 - Strawberry Bon Bons for Day 4

I haven't chosen a theme for this years 30/30 challenge. As a result today's subject, the Strawberry Bon Bons was my third choice. My first was a chocolate cup cake with chocolate covered gourmet popcorn but I couldn't make the composition work. Second I grabbed my favorite begonia, Escargot but I couldn't find a good angle. Then I walked by by my jar of Bon Bons from Ireland and voila, they spoke to me!

Jan 3 - Sue's Christmas Goodies

Must paint goodies before eating! Cousin Sue outdid herself this year with interesting Christmas goodies. I'm not even sure what they are but who cares they are so pretty!
Happy New Year!

January 1 - Day 1 of my 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge!

Detail of Bok Choy (from tonight's dinner)

I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone. Focus on New Year's dinner and Day 1 of the 30/30 challenge!
This is acrylic on gesso panel and is 6" X 6".
At first I was going to put the entire head of Bok Choy in the frame but what really attracted me was the unfurled leaves in the center. So I went with it.
Gotta go make dinner.....
